The trip back to Florida. Safe & Sound but exhausted.

What started out as a long trip became much longer due to a missed flight at JFK airport in New York.

We started out with an hour long drive to the Udon Thani Airport on Monday September 14th. The flight to Bangkok was the first time Phai’s sister and brother in law had been on a plane. Both are in their 50s so they were in a bit of awe. …

Our last full day in Isaan. Pajama party with the grandkids last night.

Today is our last full day here. Tomorrow we head for the Udon Thani airport after lunch for our flight to Bangkok. Last night three of the grandkids slept on mats  in our bedroom. I think they are realizing that they are going to miss us when we are gone. Phai took all the kids to the resort about 7 miles from here today so they could enjoy the swimming pool. …

A great final outing. Got my new iPhone 6s Plus ordered.

A couple days ago Phai asked if there was anything else I wanted to accomplish before we left. I told her I really enjoyed an outing we took 8 years ago when we drove to a lake and they had ropes strung across the lake. You had your own covered raft and use the rope to pull yourself out into the lake. …

No school today due to Buddhist holiday. Lots of activity around the area.

As time grows short we continue to wrap up things here. One nice thing about have our own house here is I can leave a lot my things here and I will not have to bring as much next time. Makes it easier to pack both this time and for our next trip back.

Phai and her daughter in law made some desserts today out of sliced bananas and rice wrapped in banana leaves and it will be cooked on the barbecue this evening. …

Apple’s big announcements and a final visit to Phai’s Sugar Cane Farm. Photos from temple visits.

This morning I got up at 6:00 am and began watching the Apple’s Keynote Presentation. It had taken place 6 hours before but I choose to sleep. This is the first one I have not watched live in many years. I made sure I didn’t look at my emails or news feeds so I could be surprised when I watched the two hour plus presentation. …

I did not get the computer time I planned so a shorter blog with fewer photos than I wanted to post.

Things stayed busy here today so I did not get much done with the photos I took yesterday. I will post a few and then hopefully tomorrow (after I watch the Apple presentation) I can get more done. As our time grows short we start to scramble to get everything done. Phai had to shop today for a large quantity of Thai cosmetics and medicine she loves. …

What a day. The entire family piled in the truck and visited three very special temples.

DSC04658

We left about 9:00 this morning and got back about 5:30 this evening. We traveled a lot of miles to three very unique religious spots. Two were Buddhist Temples and one was a mountain monastery were a famous monk spent most of his life. I took over 600 photos and since I am exhausted and it is already 7:15 am EST I will post a few today and tomorrow will have many more along with a much more detailed write up about the places we were. …

Busy day. Trip to Nong Bua Lamphu to shop, check on TV being repaired and look at new house.

We went into Nong Bua Lamphu to shop at the big Tesco Lotus. I bought enough supplies to last us until we leave next Monday (I think). Also stopped at the bank and brought my passbook up to date so it would have all the transactions I have done while I am here. Yes, they still use passbooks in Thailand. …

A busy Sunday. Phai’s Brother moved in today and it is Fa Sai’s 16th Birthday.

Phai’s brother, his wife, her mother and his wife’s grandson moved into our old house today. He is going to take over the restaurant that Phai’s sister Jahn started across the street from us while Jahn and her Husband are in the United States for six months.

We will be having a party for Fa Sai, our granddaughter who turned 16 today. …

A typical Saturday here. Then about 3 pm heavy rains moved in.

There is not much to report today. My little friend has been here and Mobuy, my granddaughter, is here now. Phai and I fed the ducks and she assured me that Ning’s father in law was going to feed the chickens at the farm today. After I ate my soup for lunch I looked over and Ning was holding a baby chick. …

A really nice visit to my farm and a fun visit from my little friend.

IMG 4488

It was a nice day today and this morning my little friend (Phai’s sister’s granddaughter) came to visit me. Phai and I had some fun pulling her around on her motorbike. It is battery powered but they took the battery out because she cannot drive it very well. So Phai hooked up some material to the handle bars and we pull her around. …

Rain this morning. Phai is really mad at one of the dogs. Only 12 more days.

First, let me not bore you with the details but after another hour long session via FaceTime to Michigan and speaker phone to Verizon things are working. Not like they should but working. They had to set me up as a new customer (the computer would not let them reinstate the account they cancelled in error). …

Verizon Fios is driving me crazy but a nice day here in Isaan.

IMG 1859

Last night I got an email from Verizon that they were terminating my service as of September 1st. Just two days before I got one saying that my account would come off vacation suspension on September 15th. I did a FaceTime with my dad and sister and found out the realtor had called them and said the people that bought his house could not get service from Verizon because we still had an open account. …

Feeling much better today. Visited the monk at the temple.

After sleeping a lot of the day yesterday and all night I feel much better. Took a nice hot shower as soon as I woke up and then had my breakfast. Phai and I went to the temple today. I wanted to measure the stupa that her mothers ashes are in. It has a place to put her picture but the family here has never done it and I told Phai I want to do it before we go home. …
